Yes, The Muses tell of heroes of old, but without artist Brittney Hackett, their tune would remain unsung and unseen. Enjoy this Q&A with this talented artist who brought this choir of divas to life.
Thanks for joining us for this conversation, Brittney. Which Disney story or character has inspired you the most?
Brittney: Is it strange to say Walt Disney himself and everyone who worked for him? I've seen so many behind-the-scenes featurettes about the work they did to make my childhood what it was. When I think of a character or movie, I always think of the artists behind it.
What is your process for reinterpreting a classic character?
Brittney: I love drawing Disney characters, even outside of what I designed for Lorcana. I always try to take into account their personality and WHY they move a certain way or WHY they express a certain emotion.
How do you study a character's movement/posing/anatomy before you start sketching?
Brittney: I like to watch short clips and if I happen to have a book with references for the character, I'll use that too. But I usually use image references I find online. Something I like to do that gives me motivation is listening to the soundtrack of the movie the character is from.
If you could visit one Disney location, what would it be?
Brittney: Just one?! I know you mean from a movie, but I would really love to visit Disneyland again, it's been so long since I've been there.
Where can people find you on social media?
Brittney: on Instagram at @brittney.jh.
